A look back at 2012

2012 Started out in Pharr, Texas and is ending in Mission, Texas.

In January we were at Holiday Village RV Park in Pharr, Texas which was our first winter in Texas.  We had gone back to Missouri by car for Christmas and was back in Pharr for the New Year.  We left Pharr March 15th and went north to Missouri by way of Texas, Louisiana, Arkansas and stopped in Lebanon, Missouri for trout fishing at Bennett Springs State Park.  We were there for a month and then on up to St. Joseph (originally home).

While in St. Joseph I saw an ad on RV.NET about a position in Kerrville, Texas that needed to be filled immediately.  I contacted the gentleman and said we could not some until June 15th and he called and talked to me and offered us the position...Kerrville is in the "Hill Country" of Texas and beautiful.  We were there until the last week of October when we drove on down to Mission where we are working at Canyon Lake Resort and RV Park.

This has been a wonderful time.  So far we have prepared twelve units to be rented.  At this time six units are being used and the others should be this coming week.  It makes you feel good to see someone living in a unit you have prepared.

We had a water line break in the bathroom which flooded the bathroom and living room/kitchen.  Now the floor is sagging.  We got an estimate for $5000 give or take a little.  For about a week I was depressed thinking the end of our dream was here.  But insurance is taking care of it with a cost to us of $250 deductible and $400 depreciation on the carpeting.  A local shop (Bert Ogden RV Center) comes highly recommended and will be doing the repairs.  We take it in next Tuesday and they think it will take about seven or eight days.  The slide will be removed so the carpeting can be removed and the flooring be replaced where needed.  Once they have everything tore out we will decide if we are going to go back with carpeting and vinyl or just vinyl.

Regardless of what it takes, our dream is still very much alive and we are looking forward to more years on the road.

As this year comes to an end, we wish all of you a Happy, Safe, and Successful 2013.

The last thing I have to say in 2012 is, If you can find a way to do it, RETIRE.  It is a wonderful life and life is to short not to enjoy the last part of it.

God bless.
