Trip to Canyon Lake

We took a drive today to  Canyon Lake which is north of San Antonio.  On our way to the dam we went across the Guadalupe River and it was filled with people in inner tubes floating and have a good time.

Here are a couple of pictures I took at the dam.  It is a huge earthen dam which is much larger than the Smithville Dam north of Kansas City, Missouri.  There is a asphalt road that you can walk, jog, or bicycle on.  No cars.

On our way to Canyon Lake we saw a large deer in the road.  Before we got to it, it jumped over a six foot fence with no effort whatsoever.  As we went past where it had jumped we saw it standing under some trees.  It took off before we could get a picture.  I had never seen one of these before.  It was beautiful.  I was an Axis deer.  Here is a little information about them.  Axis

Here are a couple of pictures I picked up off the internet since we were unable to get a picture.

We had never seen a deer this beautiful.  We love our little drives.  We love the white tail deer here on the property and the baby is really cute, but nowhere as pretty as these.  We hope to see more.
